Driving healthcare quality one NCQA and URAC accreditation at a time

Here in SE Michigan the air is cooling as a foretaste of colder weather to come. I’m not looking forward to that. Spring and summers are great but fall and winter not so much! In the middle of winter my husband and I plan to spend a few months in Florida again to get thawed.

One of the annual occurrences that I look forward to is the NCQA Innovation Summit, October 13 – 15, this year happening at the newly built Gaylord Resort in San Diego. You can find keynote speakers here.

I particularly liked the sessions on AI, reducing disparities, and health equity last year and those topics will be presented again this year by different speakers – along with a myriad of others. I know with budget cuts this year in your companies that many people will not be able to attend, which is sad, as it provides such a great opportunity to network, expand your horizons and spawn creativity in the thinking processes.

We will again have a client dinner on the 14th at 6:30 pm. It will be at Acqua e Farina near the resort (2 miles away) and we have a private room. NCQA prohibits non-vendors from having a dinner within the confines of the hotel, but getting off campus is nice also.

The menu accommodates different allergens and gluten free options. The private room allows everyone to let down their hair with less noise from the restaurant. Last year it was walking down memory lane with others whose paths had crossed in the past. It made me smile to see everyone having a great time meeting and networking.

In the past someone from a smaller plan in talking with a person from a multi-state plan was so energized. “It doesn’t matter the size of our plan, we all have the same barriers and issues!” That is such a great concept to experience! You can hear it from us that it’s common, but so much stronger from others in your shoes.

I never want to miss an opportunity to tell you how much we appreciate you, our valued partners. I know some of those words can be a cliché, but I think you know I really mean it.

When I was a nurse in the hospital, then moved to home health care, and finally to managed care, I always hoped for a wider scope of influence on health care. I never sought to build a company such as MHR, and indeed it grew organically and slowly when raising five children.

When we sent the last one off, it was then easier to focus on building the business, and today entities under MHR’s accreditation serve around 90 million people across the contiguous US and Hawaii.

We love seeing our clients grow and develop and assimilate knowledge to become more independent over time. Transferring knowledge is what brings us joy. But even greater joy occurs that it can impact the care and service provided to all those members.

I’ve never lost that altruism, and hope that I never do. That’s what floats my boat and gets me up every day.

 Kind regards,

 Susan
